The record champions were at one point at the bottom of the table, but then won two of their last three league games, level on points with Yverdon-Sport and saved themselves from the direct relegation thanks to a better goal difference. In the first leg, they secured a decisive 4-0 victory against Aarau. The first leg was already a crystal-clear affair, clearly confirming the hosts downward trend. Aarau looked like the Challenge League champions for a long time before their complete collapse.
